26-year-old off-spinner Tanush Kotian added to India’s squad for Border Gavaskar Trophy

Mumbai’s experienced off-spin bowling all-rounder Tanush Kotian has been added to the Indian squad for the remaining two Test matches in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He has received his maiden call-up for the Indian side following the retirement of veteran off-spin all-rounder Ravinchandran Ashwin.

Tanush Kotian has been one of the best spin bowling all-rounders in the domestic circuit for a very long time. The lad has been consistently delivering impactful performances for the Mumbai team in all three formats. He previously was included for the India A team during their tour of Australia prior to the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series.

According to reports, the all-rounder is scheduled to depart for Australia on Tuesday, December 24. Currently, he is part of Mumbai’s squad competing in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy in Ahmedabad.

Ravichandran Ashwin, who announced his retirement from international cricket, was a key player for India in Test cricket, renowned for his exceptional off-spin bowling and remarkable all-round abilities. As one of the most successful bowlers in Indian Test history, he left behind a legacy of match-winning performances and big shoes to fill for the next generation.

Kotian is regarded as a rising star in the Indian cricket circuit, with his ability to take crucial wickets and contribute valuable runs down the order. His consistent performances in domestic cricket have earned him recognition as a dependable all-rounder, making him a key asset for his team.

Tanush Kotian has been a crucial player for the Mumbai team since his Ranji Trophy debut in 2018 against Saurashtra. He has saved various crucial matches with his batting and bowling for the Mumbai side. Kotian played a major role with his all-round abilities in Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy win in the 2023-2024 season.

The all-rounder has taken 101 wickets (economy of 3.31) and scored 1525 runs (average of 41.21) in 33 first-class matches. In the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy season, the bowling all-rounder had 502 runs and 29 wickets to his name.

Kotian believes his greatest strength as a bowler lies in the pace at which he delivers, ranging between 85 and 90 km/h, allowing him to generate turn and extract extra bounce, just like Ravichandran Ashwin.
