Harbhajan Singh breaks silence on the future of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli

Former India off-spinner, Harbhajan Singh has predicted that Virat Kohli can go onto play five more years, courtesy of his unbelievable fitness standards. He also expressed confidence in Rohit Sharma’s ability to play for at least two more years.

Harbhajan Singh reckons that Virat Kohli is the fittest player in the current Indian team and can even outlast young players. Harbhajan emphasized that both Rohit and Kohit have plenty of cricket left in them and should continue playing as long as they remain fit.

“Rohit can easily play for two more years. You never know with Virat Kohli’s fitness, you can see him competing for five years. He is probably the fittest guy in the team. You ask any 19-year-old competing with Virat . Virat will beat him. He is that fit. I believe Virat and Rohit have a lot of cricket left in them and it is entirely up to them. If they are fit enough, they are performing and the team is winning, they should continue to play,” Harbhajan Singh told PTI in an interview.

Under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, India lifted the ICC T20 World Cup this year in June. The Hitman played some vital knocks and impressed one and all with his leadership skills. Kohli, however, did not have the best of tournament with the bat. However, he stood up when it mattered the most.

India’s run-machine played a match-winning knock of 76 runs on the day of final and led India to victory. Following the conclusion of the event, both of them announced their retirement from T20I cricket.

Both Virat and Rohit joined the India team to participate in the recent ODI series against Sri Lanka under new head coach, Gautam Gambhir. India had a series to forget as Sri Lanka beat them by a 2-0 margin. Barring Rohit Sharma, the Indian batters failed to stand against the Sri Lanka spinners on a tricky pitch in Colombo.

Kohli fell prey to the Sri Lankan spinners in all the three matches. He also had a series to forget. Meanwhile, both these stalwarts will be back for the Test series against Bangladesh in September.
