A new international record has been created in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Sub Regional East Asia-Pacific Qualifier A event on Tuesday. Darius Visser created the record of the most number of runs smashed in a single over in a men’s T20I game.
Visser hit three sixes and the bowler, Nalin Nipiko, bowled three no balls as the batter smashed 39 runs off a single over in men’s T20I game. Till now, the highest number of runs that were smashed in a single over was 36.
Yuvraj Singh smashed 6 sixes against England and scored 36 runs in the T20 World Cup in 2007. Recently, Kieron Pollard (2021), Nicholas Pooran (2024), Dipendra Singh Airee (2024) and Rohit Sharma / Rinku Singh (2024), were also involved in scoring 36 runs in a single over.
Visser hit three sixes in the first three deliveries of the over from Nipiko. He then smashed a big six of the fourth delivery to bring up his team’s hundred. Nipiko bowled a dot ball on the fifth delivery of the over. However, that did not stop Visser from creating the record. He went on to hit a big six on the third no-ball of the over and then smashed another six to score 39 runs in a single over. He also became the first player from Samoa to achieve this record and also smash a T20I century.

Scoring 39 runs in a single over in a T20I is a sensational achievement. It takes immense power, precision, and timing to pull off such a feat. In just six balls, the batter has to hit nearly every delivery to the boundary, which demands focus and confidence. This kind of performance can turn the game on its head. It can lift the team’s momentum and putting immense pressure on the opposition. Achieving 39 runs in one over is a rare moment of brilliance.
