The new pacer for Royal Challengers Bangalore, Yash Dayal, credited RCB’s former captain, Virat Kohli, for making him comfortable in his new team. Dayal had a horror season in IPL 2023 for the Gujarat Titans where he picked up just 2 wickets at a shambolic average of 82.50 and a dismal economy rate of 11.79 in five games.
Dayal was also smashed for five consecutive sixes in the last five balls of the innings by Rinku Singh as Singh led KKR to a sensational win against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. However, Dayal had a productive season for RCB in IPL 2024 where he played 14 games and scalped 15 wickets at an average of 30.60.
Yash Dayal shared that Virat Kohli gave him significant encouragement by assuring him that the team would support him throughout the entire season. This strong backing from Kohli and the team provided Dayal with a morale boost.
He also mentioned that Kohli treats young players just like everyone else, showing no difference in his interactions. Contrary to some of the perceptions about Kohli discussed on TV, Dayal didn’t experience any of that negativity in his interactions with the star cricketer.
“The biggest thing he said to me was that they would back me for the entire season and I will not feel as an outsider in the team. They backed me wholeheartedly in the entire season that was a booster for me. He interacts with youngsters in the same way like others and What people talk on TV about him I didn’t feel that with him,” said Dayal.

However, he has been a constant supporting presence for his teammates and the youngsters, who learn a lot from a legend like him. Kohli is always keen to interact with them, give confidence to them and support them at their lowest. Even without being a captain, he is the leader of the side
Kohli is currently spending his time with his family in London after the two match ODI series against Sri Lanka. He will be back during the Test series against Bangladesh in September.
