Pakistan is currently on the backfoot in the ongoing first Test match against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi. At the end of day 4, Pakistan had lost one wicket for 23 runs, still trailing by 94 runs. Bangladesh have a great chance to snatch a win if they get early wickets on day 5.
Amidst all this, a video from the Pakistan dressing room has gone viral in which one can see Pakistan’s Test captain, Shan Masood, speaking animatedly with coach Jason Gillespie. Masood was talking furiously and Gillespie was listening to him calmly.
Here’s the video of the incident:
Pakistan is playing in a relatively docile wicket in Rawalpindi against Bangladesh and that did not bode well for the home team. Pakistan declared their innings for 448 runs in the first innings. Mohammad Rizwan scored 171 runs and Saud Shakeel, Pakistan’s Test vice-captain, scored 141 runs. Earlier, young opener Saim Ayub set the tone with a 56-run knock.
In reply, Bangladesh posted a mammoth 567 runs in their first innings. Mushfiqur Rahim led the batting chart with an innings of 191 runs, followed by another stellar knock from Shadnam Islam, who scored 93 runs. Mehidy Hasan Miraj contributed with 77 runs, while Litton Das scored 56 runs. Mominul Haque also scored a half-century.
Pakistan bowlers had to toil hard on the field. Shaheen Shah Afridi picked up 2 wickets after bowling 30 overs. Naseem Shah bowled 27.3 overs to pick up 3 wickets. Khurram Shahzad returned with the bowling figures of 2 for 90 in 29 overs.
What’s going wrong in Pakistan’s dressing room?
There have been reported feuds inside the dressing room over the last few months. Garry Kirsten complained of the creation of two different lobbies inside the team and the abusive behavior of Shaheen Shah Afridi. The team has faced a lot of criticism from the fans and the media due to their lack of unity. The results have not been satisfactory on the field and that has drawn even more criticism.
Pakistan’s Test team is currently led by left-handed opening batter Shan Masood. He took over as captain after Babar Azam was relinquished from the captaincy duties across formats post the World Cup 2023. In his first Test assignment, Pakistan visited Australia for a three-match Test series. The hosts won the series by a 3-0 margin.
