Indian batter Shreyas Iyer was seen imitating Sunil Narine’s bowling action during the recent Mumbai’s match against TNCA XI in the Buchi Babu Tournament 2024. Notably, both Narine and Shreyas Iyer play for Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier Legue.

The two share a close bonding between each other. Shreyas Iyer came in to bowl just before the end of day 1 and immitated Narine’s unique bowling action. He could not bowl with the same accuracy but copied Narine’s action with perfection. He did not pick up any wicket and gave away 7 runs.

Iyer was dropped from the central contract by the BCCI right at the start of the year for missing Mumbai’s semi-final match in the Ranji Trophy, citing back injury. He hasn’t been in good form, of late, in both Test cricket and ODI cricket.

Iyer had a dismal Test series in South Africa and has constantly struggled against short deliveries.

Shreyas Iyer has struggled with the bat of late

He also struggled in the, recently concluded ODI series, which India lost 2-0. Although, he is known as a good player of spin bowling but he struggled against the Sri Lankan spinners on turning tracks.

He is looking to perform well in the Buchi Babu tournament and the Duleep Trophy to make a comeback in the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh. It remains to be seen whether Iyer will get a chance in India’s squad for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh, starting from September 19.

Iyer also did not find his place in India’s squad in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. He had a mixed IPL with the bat. However, he managed to lead Kolkata Knight Riders to their third IPL title. Reports have been going around that Iyer might be traded to Mumbai Indians ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction and Suryakumar Yadav will be back in KKR. The franchise wants him as the captain of the team.
