Former England Test captain, Joe Root smashed his 34th Test hundred in the second innings of the second Test match of the series against Sri Lanka at the Lord’s Cricket Ground on Saturday. This comes after the legendary batter smashed one century in the first innings of the match.
In the second innings, he scored 103 runs from 121 balls, helping England muster up 250 runs in their second innings.
In the last few years, Root has shown unreal consistency in this format. He displayed his class yet again with 10 boundaries during his innings. He is certainly one of the greatest batters the purest format of the game has ever seen and is slowly marching towards breaking the records set by the great Sachin Tendulkar in Test cricket.

Root displays class with each of his shots and effortlessly builds up his innings in the toughest of conditions and even against the toughest bowling attacks. The man has a tremendous ability to soak up the pressure and is always busy during the innings.
He also scored at a very decent rate in Test cricket and is currently well above any of his contemporaries in the fab 4, comprising of the likes of Virat Kohli, Kane Williamson and Steve Smith.
If he continues to notch up centuries at this rate for the next 3-4 years, he will certainly be very close to breaking and going past the 15,921 runs of Sachin Tendulkar in Test cricket.
Meanwhile, coming to this Test match, England are in a dominant position. Sri Lanka got dismissed for 196 runs in their first innings, in response to the 427 runs of England in their first innings. England scored 251 runs in their second innings and have set a target of 483 runs to chase for Sri Lanka. The Lankan Lions are staring down the barrel in their second innings.
