Sunil Gavaskar gives his predictions for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25

Indian Cricket Team will travel to Australia for a five-match Test series at the end of the year for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. It has been a fiercely contested series in Australia in the recent years and former Indian and Australian cricketers have already started giving their predictions.

Sunil Gavaskar also gave his prediction for the upcoming series. Gavaskar feels that Australians are under a little bit of pressure due to the retirement of David Warner. He reckons that the opening combination and the middle order of the Aussies aren’t too strong. Although, Gavaskar felt that it is going to be an exciting series due to the players that both sides possess. He predicted a 3-1 win for India.

โ€œWith their opening batting problems exacerbated after the retirement of David Warner and the middle-order also a bit dodgy, the Aussies are ripe for the taking once again,โ€ Gavaskar wrote in his column for India newspaper Mid-Day.

โ€œItโ€™s going to be an exciting series for sure with the talent that is there on both sides and it will also show why Test match cricket is the ultimate format of our beloved game. Oh, and my prediction is a 3-1 win for India.” he added:

Australia have not won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy since 2014-15

Australia have not won a Border-Gavaskar series since the 2014-15 series at home. There have been two series in Australia and two series in India, and the Indian team have triumphed in all of them. Indian under Virat Kohli, went on to beat Australia in Australia for the first time in a Test series during the 2018 Border-Gavaskar series.

However, they proved their mettle in the 2020-21 series, beating Australia by a margin of 2-1, after getting humiliated in the first Test.

They were all-out for 36 in Adelaide, but came back strongly despite players getting injured and a squad without their captain and main batter, Virat Kohli. The young brigade also breached Australia’s fortress, The Gabba. It showed the dominance of the Indian team in the SENA conditions. They will be raring to repeat something of the same quality in the upcoming tour as well.
