India’s selection panel member, Salil Ankola has been replaced by former Indian wicket-keeper batsman Ajay Ratna as a part of Agarkar-led Indian Men’s selection committee.
Ajay Ratra was interviewed for the role back in June 2024 by the Cricket Advisory Committee alongside other former cricketers Reetinder Singh Sodi and Ajat Mehra. He will be responsible for the North zone.
With other members of the Agarkar-led committee like Shiv Sundar Das, Subroto Banerjee and Sridharan Sharath remaining in charge of their roles, Salil Ankola has been replaced by the new recruit.
Ratra has prior experience having worked with the Indian team when he was a part of the coaching staff during the South Africa ODI series last year. He was also a member of the National Cricket Academy before as he had applied for the post back in 2022, when Shiv Sundar Das was chosen for the vacant role while Chetan Sharma was the chairman.
Ajay Ratra has played very little professional cricket for India, having not earned a big name he committed himself to domestic cricket before retiring from all forms in 2015.
Indian red-ball team selection awaited post-Duleep Trophy first-round
India await a new team selection for the red ball series against Bangladesh as India targets a new team before the first WTC final to be played under Gambhir as the team India head coach.
With the chances of Bumrah being rested for the Bangladesh home series, Indian selectors also look forward to the 20 selected fast bowlers from Duleep Trophy teams, to eye a replacement for the pace maestro.
Even the likes of the batters with the finest of forms, Yashavi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant have been asked by the BCCI to compete in the Duleep Trophy tournament in order to find themselves among India’s Test players.
All these are being made in order to find a balanced team for the Home series against Bangladesh, and New Zealand and then the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia which is to be played later this year.
