India won the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in June under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma and with Rahul Dravid as the head coach. After the World Cup, Dravid’s contract with BCCI ended and he stepped away from the position.
Former India opener, Gautam Gambhir was appointed as the new head coach and he led India to a 3-0 series win in the first T20I series against Sri Lanka in the Island nation. India’s young opener, Yashasvi Jaiswal, recently, broke silence on Gambhir’s coaching method and approach.
Jaiswal stated that Gambhir told him and the team to go out and play freely during the Sri Lanka series. He added that Gauti has given them confidence and allowed them to back their skills and play in an aggressive manner.
“Yes, I have spoken with him during the Sri Lanka series. He really backed us saying just go out and play freely and enjoy the game and we will be with you. It gives us a lot of confidence and helps us to play fearlessly,” Jaiswal told PTI.
Yashasvi Jaiswal eager to continue his dream run in Tests
India will now face Bangladesh in a Test series, starting from September 19 at home. Jaiswal will be a crucial player in the team against the Tigers. He has played fearlessly and batted sensationally, since making his debut in Test cricket. He has not yet made his debut in ODI cricket but has honed and displayed his skills in the other two formats.

Jaiswal showed his keenness to perform well in the Duleep Trophy and subsequently in the Bangladesh series. He wants to be consistent and keep doing what he has been doing so far. Jaiswal highlighted the importance of domestic tournaments like the Duleep Trophy and the Irani Trophy.
“I am working hard at nets ahead, first for the Duleep Trophy and then for the Bangladesh series. It’s not about setting personal goals, as you know in cricket you have to be consistent and keep working on your skills.” Jaiswal asserted.
In 9 Tests played for India so far, Jaiswal has managed to score 1028 runs at an average of 68.53.
