Ex-Indian cricketer Dodda Ganesh

Ex-Indian cricketer Dodda Ganesh has been relieved from his duties as the Kenya National Cricket Team head coach within a month of his appointment.

The former Karnataka player has starred for his domestic side and picked many wickets playing for the state, though the state is largely known for bowlers like Prasad and Srinath. Ganesh was appointed in the role of head coach for the Kenya National Cricket team ahead of the African qualifiers for the T20 World Cup 2026.

However, after his appointment on 14th August, it’s been less than a month, and he has been relieved of his duties by the Kenya Cricket Board.

As per reports, though nothing has been said about the reason concerning his sacking from the role, it has been reported that a letter was addressed to Ganesh’s name that informed him of his dismissal.

“Voided the purported contract made on August 7, 2024, between Mr. Manoj Patel and yourself. Pursuant to the above, Cricket Kenya is and shall not be bound by the said purported contract.

“You are therefore directed to cease any further engagement or dealings with the men’s national cricket team with immediate effect. Any concerns or claims relating to this notice should be channelled to Mr Manoj Patel [Chairman] and any other individuals who irregularly and unprocedurally engaged you in this respect.” read the letter addressed to Ganesh from the Kenya Cricket Board.

The African qualifiers will see a total of 20 teams from different parts of Africa participating, as they have been divided into three different qualifier sets. Also, Namibia and Uganda, who were part of the T20 World Cup 2024, have qualified directly for the regional finals.

Kenya is placed under Qualifier B, alongside teams like Gambia, Mozambique, Rwanda, Zimbabwe, and the Seychelles. The Qualifier B matches will begin in the month of October in 2024. Of the six teams, only the top two will likely advance into the regional finals after a long round-robin contest.

From every set, like Kenya, six teams will compete from each set, as two teams qualify from each sub-regional set, with Namibia and Uganda already in the regional finals. The 8 teams will contest in the African final regionals, as the top two placed teams will ultimately make it to the main tournament in India in 2026.

Following the exit of the 51-year-old due to the suspension letter sent to him signed under Pearlyne Omami, the Director of Kenya’s Women’s Cricket. Post this disapproval of Dodda Ganesh’s appointment, Lameck Onyango and Joseph Angara have resumed their roles as interim head coach and assistant coach.

Kenya will be next seen in the ICC Division 2 Challenge League as they get ready to face Qatar, Denmark, Jersey, and Papua New Guinea in the tournament.
