Australia’s premier off spinner, Nathan Lyon, has recently spoken about his comparisons with the magician spinner, Shane Warne. Lyon revealed that he was struggling with the pressure from the expectations from the Australian fans early into his career. He was trying his hardest every game to answer the questions posed by the media and the fans about who will replace Warne.
โI probably struggled with it early doors because you would be trying your hardest every game but I feel like the media and the Australian public were asking who’s the next spinner, we need a spinner to do what Shane Warne did on the last day,โ Lyon told Sky Cricket.
Nathan Lyon called Shane Warne once in a generation player
Lyon also stated that Warne is a once in a generation player who according to him is the greatest ever to play the game. He also understood very early in his career that he can’t replicate what Warne has done in his career. Lyon just wants to make his family and Warne proud with his performances.
โAnd I’m 10 matches into my first-class career, I’m never going to be able to do what Warnie did. Warnie’s once-in-a-generation, he’s the greatest to play the game in my opinion and all I want to do is make my family proud, and make Shane Warne proud and just go out there and compete,โ he added.
Lyon has definitely become an all-time great for Australia and in Test cricket. He has already represented in 129 Test matches and scalped 530 wickets for his nation. He is always the sole and lone spinner that Australia fields in their playing XI in Test matches generally. Therefore, he carries the burden of Australia’s spin bowling attack on his shoulders. Lyon is patiently waiting for the 5-match Test series against Australia at the end of the year in the Border-Gavaskar series.
