Captain, Rohit Sharma, addressed the press and the media ahead of the start of the first Test match against Bangladesh Cricket Team in Chennai, starting from September 19.
This will be the first Test match for India under the new Head Coach, Gautam Gambhir. Sharma talked about the change in the coaching staff from the Rahul Dravid era.
He reiterated that the new coaching staff under Gambhir will have new and different ideas than the one under Rahul Dravid but it is not going to be a problem as he has good understanding with Gambhir.
“Obviously Rahul bhai, Vikram Rathour and Paras Mhambrey were a different team; and it is only acceptable that the new support staff will bring different perspective. New coaching staff has different style but there is no problem. Good understanding is important, and I have that with Gambhir,” Rohit said in the pre-match press conference.
โI have some close encounters with Morkelโ – Rohit Sharma
The Hitman talked about how he has worked with a number of coaches during his long career in cricket. He talked about Gambhir (Head Coach), Abhishek Nayar ( the assistant coach) and Morne Morkel (Bowling coach) and explained how they have been competitive.
He, however, revealed that he hasn’t talked and worked too much with Ryan Cook. He emphasised his good work during the tour of Sri Lanka.
He feels that he has a very good understanding with the current members of the coaching staff of Team India.
โI have also played matches against Morne Morkel and Ryan ten Doeschate. I have some close encounters with Morkel, but not so much with Ryan, may be a couple of matches. But that doesn’t matter,โ Rohit Sharma said.
“As of now, there have been no issues or problems as such (with the new set of support staff). We have a great understanding of each other.โ He added.
India will be facing Bangladesh in two Test matches starting in Chennai and then moving to Kanpur. India will then take on New Zealand in a 3-match Test series at home before flying to Australia for a 5-match Test series at the Border-Gavaskar series.
