Mohammed Shami suffers a fresh injury; might be ruled out of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy

Mohammed Shami, the sensational Indian fast bowler, has been out of action since his inspiring performances in the ICC ODI World Cup in 2023. It was reported that Shami will make his comeback from injury in the Border-Gavaskar series in Australia.

However, recent reports suggest that Shami’s hopes of making a comeback in the Border-Gavaskar series has suffered a setback as he has developed swollen knees during his rehabilitation at the NCA.

The first Test between Australia and India starts on November 22 and Shami might not be able to be fit on time for the match in Perth. He has been rehabilitating at the NCA since his achilles tendon surgery after the ODI World Cup 2023.

What did the BCCI source say about Mohammed Shami?

“Shami had resumed bowling, and he was looking on track to make a comeback to competitive cricket soon. But this knee injury has flared up, recently. BCCI’s medical team is assessing the injury, but it may require quite a bit of time,” TOI quoted a BCCI source.

He added: “It’s a jolt for the NCA medical team. They have been working on him for over a year. They have one of the best workload management systems in place. The medical team is trying its best to put him back in the park soon.”

Earlier, Shami stated in an interview, that he is looking to make his comeback soon as he has been out of action for a long time. However, he also added that he wants to be fit fully, so that he does not have any problems when he makes his comeback to cricket.

He does not want to rush and take the risk of getting injured again after making his comeback. Shami is expected to be a vital part of India’s fast bowling arsenal in Australia.
