Muhammad Rizwan is set to replace Babar Azam as the white-ball captain of Pakistan Cricket Team

On October 2, Babar Azam, the star Pakistani batter decided to announce his resignation as the captain of the white ball team of Pakistan. Babar was the captain of the national team across all formats till the ODI World Cup 2023.

However, he stepped down from all formats after the World Cup. Shan Masood was appointed as the Test captain and Shaheen Shah Afridi as the T20I captain. However, just ahead of the T20 World Cup in 2024, Azam was reinstated as the white-ball captain of Pakistan.

However, Pakistan performed poorly in the T20 World Cup as well, losing to both India and USA and got knocked out of the group stage. Babar’s own batting performance is also bad in recent times and hence he has decided to concentrate on his batting.

Although, Babar might have announced to step down as skipper, fans feel that he has been forced to step down as the captain. Reports state that Babar was not able to feel close to the players as the captain and was losing the trust of his team. Moreover, it is said that PCB also had severed ties with Babar as the captain and hence he has decided to take this step.

Muhammad Rizwan is now expected to lead the white-ball team after the steps down from Babar Azam, Meanwhile, Pakistan’s white-ball Head Coach, Gary Kirsten wanted a new captain in the T20I format after the debacle in the T20I World Cup in 2024 and is set to have communicated that to the PCB and Babar.

Babar has been under tremendous pressure from everywhere due to his underperformance as a batter and also as the captain of the team. The pressure was growing on the star Pakistan batter and hence he decided to take this step yet again.
