Gautam Gambhir wants the batsman obsessed attitude to chance and shift the focus to bowlers

India’s Head Coach, Gautam Gambhir, attended the press-conference ahead of the first Test between India and New Zealand in Bengaluru.

He called this age as the generation of bowlers and wants the batsman obsessed attitude to end. Gambhir feels that everyone is only concerned with the batters, but you can’t win Test matches unless the bowlers pick up 20 wickets. Gauti also said that the bowlers win teams the tournaments and wants the focus to shift to the bowlers.

What did Gautam Gambhir say?

โ€œThis is the age of the bowlers. Batters only set up the matches. Itโ€™s very important for our batsman-obsessed attitude to end. If the batters make 1000 runs, thereโ€™s still no guarantee that the team will win a Test match but if a bowler takes 20 wickets, thereโ€™s a 99% guarantee that weโ€™ll win the match. Be it Test matches or any other formats, bowlers win you tournaments. So I hope this era or the upcoming ones, weโ€™ll talk more about bowlers than batters. And I hope the mindset changes over time,โ€ Gambhir said in a press conference before Indiaโ€™s 1st Test against New Zealand, scheduled to take place in Bengaluru from October 16.

Gambhir has time and time again stressed on the importance of bowlers even when he was not the Head Coach of the Indian Cricket Team. Now, even Jasprit Bumrah, the star fast bowler has been appointed as the vice-captain of the Indian Test team ahead of the home Test series against New Zealand.

In Test cricket, bowlers are the unsung heroes who often determine the match’s outcome. While batsmen might score the runs, it’s the bowlers who set the game’s pace, break partnerships, and exploit conditions.

Their skill in dismissing key players, maintaining pressure, and bowling side out can turn the tide, showcasing that it’s often the bowlers who craft the path to victory on those challenging, lengthy test match days.
