Day 1 of the England tour of Pakistan’s second Test went in just the same manner as the first inning of the first Multan test. Pakistan took to the field to bat first on the used Multan track. Despite the known track, Pakistan did not enjoy bathing on the surface just as they did in the first test. Opener Abdullah Shafique and skipper Shan Masood, the centurions from the first test, went back early into the pavilion after being dismissed by Jack Leach.

The other opener, Saim Ayub, and debutant Pakistan’s latest no. 4, Kamran Ghulam, steadied things and put on a huge partnership. Ayub scored a stable 77, while Ghulam went on to score a maiden hundred in their first inning.

Though Ghulam fell during the end of the day, getting out on 118, Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha took guard of the inning, as they ended their day at Stumps with 259/5.
