India have suffered a daunting loss in the first Test match of the series against New Zealand in Bengaluru.
However, one of the major cause of worry was about Rishabh Pant. The wicketkeeper batted in both the innings but Dhruv Jurel was keeping in place of Pant in the majority of the test.
Pant injured himself in the same knee where he had the surgery after his horrific car crash in December 2022. He had major surgeries and was out of cricket for 1.5 years. Pant made his comeback in this year’s IPL and the Indian captain, Rohit Sharma, wants to be extra careful with his young wicketkeeper.
Rohit Sharma talked about the injury of Rishabh Pant
Sharma said that Pant had a major surgery in his knee and that is why he wanted to be extra careful with him in this Test match.
He also talked about the trauma that he has gone through in the past two years and how it is not easy to feature as a wicketkeeper on the field with the pain. The team management wanted to give him extra rest for the next Test match.
Here’s what Rohit Sharma said at the press conference:
“Pant had a massive operation on his knee. It’s better to be careful. When he was batting, he wasn’t comfortably running. We need to be extra careful. He has gone through a lot of trauma in the last couple of years, not easy to keep with pain so we needed him to have extra rest before the next Test”.
Pant played a mighty fine innings in the second innings of the Test but got out on 99. He, along with Sarfaraz Khan’s 150, gave India a slight chance after they were all-out for just 46 runs in the first innings. However, New Zealand chased down the total with ease and registered a famous win.
