A bland pitch is not very predictable, while a slow-turning pitch is in the making for India vs New Zealand’s second Test at Pune.
Some reports from ESPNcricinfo have suggested that the pitch would be packed with black soil and the pitch would be flatter and slower as compared to the first Test track at the Chinnaswamy.
Team India was distraught after the early scare on the Chinnaswamy track when the most convincing team of the WTC failed to surpass a score of 50 runs for the first innings. Hence, this plan of pitch curation would remain for both the next Tests, as this allows the Indian spinners to dominate.
However, the Mumbai track is often home to the finest of pacers due to their prevalent red soil as compared to the black soil in the Maharashtra Cricket Association in Pune.
The conditions were supposed to be similar at the Chinnaswamy as well; however, overcast conditions played the other way around as India faced a major setback playing three lead spinners in the side.
India call up Washington Sundar for remaining Tests
The Indian team, despite already having the likes of four quality spinners in the pre-mentioned squad for the New Zealand series, has now called up another spinner into the side.
Indian all-rounder Washington Sundar has been picked up for the second and third tests after he scored a recent dominating inning with the bat for Tamil Nadu. Sent in to bat early, Sundar came into bat at no. 3 alongside Sudarshan.
If Sundar is placed into the side replacing the likes of Kuldeep, then he might add greatness and depth to India’s batting deck alongside being a suitable spin option for the side. He will now form the Test match spin trio alongside Ravindra Jadeja and Ravi Ashwin.
