Team India are in the middle of a three match home Test series against New Zealand and they have already lost the first Test in Bengaluru. However, the most important aspect for the team currently is the fitness of their star bowler, Jasprit Bumrah. Team India have two Test matches to play in the ongoing series and then will travel to Australia for a five-match Test series for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Bumrah will be a crucial factor if India needs to get success and hence his fitness needs to be taken special care. Head Coach, Gautam Gambhir talked about the workload management of Bumrah ahead of the start of the second Test match against New Zealand in Pune.
The Head Coach said that India will have 10-12 days break after the end of the home series against New Zealand and that will be enough time for Jasprit Bumrah and the other fast bowlers to recover. Gauti wants to keep all the fast bowlers fresh, keeping in mind the long tour of Australia.
“Once the series is over, we still have around 10 or 12 days before the (first) Test starts in Australia. That is enough break for our fast bowlers as well. But we will still monitor after this Test match where Jasprit Bumrah is,” Gambhir stated.
“But it’s not only about Jasprit Bumrah. It’s about with all the fast bowlers as well. We want to keep them fresh. We know that obviously we’ve got a long tour and an important tour of Australia,” he added.

Bumrah played an integral part in India’s first Test series win on Australian soil in 2018 when India beat them 2-1 under the captaincy of Virat Kohli. The fast bowler picked up 21 wickets in four matches and was a constant threat to the Australian batting lineup.
Meanwhile, in the 2020-21 tour of Australia, he was bowling really well but was injured in the middle of the series. The fast bowler has suffered multiple injuries and has remained out of the game for considerable period of time. Hence, the team management and the leadership group wants to take special care of their prized asset. Meanwhile, India have won the last four Border-Gavaskar trophies and hence it will be an interesting contest this time around Down Under.
