India’s off-spinner, Washington Sundar, was the star performer on the first day of the second Test match against New Zealand in Pune. He scalped seven wickets for just 59 runs to help India restrict the Kiwis for a score of 259 after the Black Caps won the toss and elected to bat first on a track that was going to aid the spinners.
There was of course a hilarious moment involving Sundar, Rishabh Pant and Ajaz Patel. The video of the incident is going viral on social media. Pant was advising Sundar to bowl fuller and outside the off stump to Ajaz Patel, in Hindi.
“Washi (Washington Sundar) aage daal sakte hai you can bowl little fuller. Thoda bahar daal sakte hai,” Pant was heard saying to Sundar. Sundar bowled in the exact way that Pant advised him to bowl and Patel smacked him for a boundary down the ground through the long on region.
After Sundar was hit for a boundary, the Indian wicketkeeper wanted to defend himself and said “Yaar mereko kya pata issey Hindi aati hai? (How would I know that his guy knows Hindi?).” He was trying to say to Sundar that he was not aware that Azal Patel would understand what Pant said in Hindi.
