New Zealand bowler, Tim Southee, during an exclusive interview with Cricbuzz, revealed how the series evolved into a defining moment in his career. The lad came to the interview after clinching the Test series in India, for the first time.
The interviewer asked Southee about what has been the most pleasing thing to come from this series win?. He replied,
‘Coming here and achieving what many great New Zealand and international teams couldn’t winning against India has been incredible for us as a small but proud nation.’
He added,
“We’re a very small country of 5 million people, but very passionate. Sports is a big part of who we are.“
The Black Caps were in a low phase before the start of the series, as they lost to Sri Lanka 2-0 and dropped major points in the WTC cycle. Win in this series was crucial for the team to clinch some important points, which would help them reach the finals.
Southee commented that, New Zealand’s win against India in India will prove to the other teams that it is possible to beat team India at home.
He elaborated,
“Being able to come here and accomplish this is something we’ll reflect on, especially after the series. It’s an achievement we’ll likely look back on for years and recognize just how special it truly was.”

The veteran fast bowler replied,
“The team has been through many good times and a few tough times as well. Facing the tough times, make this moment more sweeter and merrier.”
“Looking back, it’s hard to overlook winning the World Test Championship—that stands out as a major moment. But this achievement ranks right alongside it, if not equally. These two milestones have definitely been career highlights for me.”
