The third Test match between India and New Zealand is, currently, ongoing at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Just at the fag end of the day, Virat Kohli made an error in judgement while taking a run and got out due to the direct hit from Matt Henry, who was stationed at mid-on.
The former Indian captain kickstarted his innings with a boundary through the leg side, thanks to a full toss from Rachin Ravindra. It felt like Kohli will finally be back in form but that was not to be. He was dismissed cheaply as India found themselves tottering at 86 runs for the loss of four wickets.
On the third ball of the 19th over, Kohli pushed one delivery from Ravindra to mid on and called for a quick single to which Shubman Gill obliged.
However, Kohli was running to the danger end and Henry was quick to the ball and initiated a perfect throw which hit the stumps in no time, catching Kohli out of the crease.
Meanwhile, fan on X have responded strongly to the dismissal. Here’s a look at some of the reactions:
New Zealand were dismissed for 235 runs in the first innings
Earlier, New Zealand were all-out for 235 runs in 65.4 overs. Ravindra Jadeja took a five wicket haul and Washington Sundar picked up four wickets.
Akash Deep was the pacer who picked up another wicket. Daryl Mitchell was the highest scorer of the Kiwi innings with a 82 run-score and Will Young contributed with 71 runs.
At the end of the day, Ravindra Jadeja talked about his five wickets and the last few minutes of the day where India lost wickets in a heap.
He said: “Taking a fifer for India in Tests, it’s always special. Felt good that I helped my team in getting breakthroughs. It wasn’t easy bowl in the heat, Washington bowled well and everyone played their roles. As a batting unit, we need a collective effort. (On overtaking Zaheer Khan and Ishant Sharma) I didn’t know that. I look at the stats when I am not playing.”
“Good that I’m progressing and taking wickets. You got to mix your pace on this wicket. You can’t bowl too slow, there’s bounce but not much pace. You got to use your shoulder and get more revs to generate the bounce. (Last 15 minutes of play) It was unexpected, miscommunication and misjudgement happens. We are 150 runs behind, small partnerships to take team’s total over 230 will be our game-plan.” Jadeja added.
Kohli has been out for form in the series. He has scored 92 runs from five innings at an average of 18.40. In those 92 runs, 70 came in the second innings of the first Test match in Bengaluru. He has to turn it around in the second innings before India travel to Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
