Bengal and former Indian wicketkeeper-batsman, Wriddhiman Saha, came forward and announced his retirement from international cricket on Sunday. Saha announced his retirement through an ‘X’ post where he mentioned playing his final Ranji Trophy season for Bengal.
Saha, who turned 40 years old, earlier, this year, has played 40 Test matches for India where he went on to score 1353 runs with an average of 29.41. He has also represented India in 9 ODI matches. Though his international career doesn’t seem very decorated, he had a great domestic career.
Saha made his final Indian team appearance back in 2021 against New Zealand; however, despite performing quite well in the first WTC for India, Saha was benched in the forthcoming series as Rishabh Pant slowly rose to excellence.
“After a cherished journey in cricket, this season will be my last. I’m honoured to represent Bengal one final time, playing only in the Ranji Trophy before I retire. Let’s make this season one to remember!” Saha tweeted
Wriddhiman Saha denies further IPL contention
The IPL 2025 is much in talk, while the most anticipated has been the mega-auction, and several players would also be keen to make their mark in the IPL. Reports suggest that Saha has said no to his further contention in the IPL.
According to the latest report by Sportstar, Saha is not likely to participate in the tournament as he has not registered himself for the upcoming mega-auction season.
Saha has not been retained ahead of the mega-auction by the former franchise Gujarat Titans, where Saha served as their opening batsman and wicketkeeper. Saha lies among the very few veterans of the season who have played every season of the IPL since 2008.
In his long career, he first played for the Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Punjab Kings, and lastly for the Gujarat Titans.
