During the Big Bash League clash between Sydney Sixers and Hobart Hurricanes, a bizarre incident took place that amused the fans a lot. Sydney batter Ellyse Perry was run out clearly, but no one from the bowling side appealed which gave her an extra batting.
In the 20th over of the first innings, between Sydney Sixers and Hobart Hurricanes in Bellerive Oval, Mathilda Carmichael chipped the ball towards gully and called for a risky run. Perry had a slow start and gave up while running towards the batting end.
Lizelle Lee collected the ball and uprooted the bails, but forgot to appeal. This incident is amusing as Perry gave up on her wicket, but still survived due to lack of awareness by the Hurricanes. Both the Sydney batter knew about the dismissal but kept quiet as the opposition didn’t appeal for the run-out.
The leg umpire started walking to fix the wickets, as there was no appeal by the players. The rule of cricket suggests that play cannot be halted or given out without an official appeal from the fielding side.
The wicketkeeper realized about the appeal later, but by then, the play had already moved on and the opportunity was missed. This wicket costed the match for Hobart Hurricanes, as they only lost by a margin of 6 runs.
