Former Indian cricketer, Wasim Jaffer believes that Team India needs an experienced player to be successful in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. He considers Cheteshwar Pujara is a missing link in the India’s squad for the test series.
Indian cricket team is set to play Australia in a 5-test match series named Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, starting November 22. The heroes of last time Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane, have been dropped from the side.
Cricket expert Wasim Jaffer, suggested that the visitors can only secure a win if they put up strong totals on the board. He stated, “I feel it will be difficult for the Indian team, to be honest. Beating Australia in Australia is obviously difficult. India played incredible cricket in the two series they won. However, I feel they will have to bat slightly better this time. Pujara is not there this time.”
The former cricketer reckons that it will be challenging for India to beat Australia in Australia. While India played exceptionally well in the previous two series wins, he feels the team will need to improve their batting this time, especially with Pujara absent.
He believes Pujara was crucial for India, handling the new ball well, exhausting Australia’s fast bowlers, and scoring big. India now needs someone to play a similar role. He feels India must score well to win; otherwise, Australia holds the advantage.
Apart from this, former cricketer Robin Uthappa emphasizes that there’s still a vital role for a player like Cheteshwar Pujara in the team. According to him, Pujara’s anchoring ability is essential, as he can hold one end steady while other batters play around him. He believes a place should be made for such a player as soon as possible.
