During the first T20I between India and South Africa in Durban, a heated exchange of words occured between Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav and South African pacer Marco Jansen. India won the match by a huge margin of 61 runs, and took the lead 1-0 in the series.
The incident took place during the second innings, when South Africa were chasing the target set up by India. A frustrated Suryakumar was spotted exchanging words with bowler Jansen, after Jansen showed his annoyance over Samson repeatedly stepping onto the pitch.
During the 15th over, Sanju Samson gathered the throw from the deep just inside the pitch. Unhappy with the way the ball was collected, Marco Jansen had a word with wicketkeeper Sanju Samson. This made the Indian skipper furious and he intervened the matter. SKY was seen having some animated conversation with the South African batter, Jansen and Coetzee.
This incident made the on-field umpires Lubabalo Gcuma and Stephen Harris to rush in during the chat and separate the players. It is revealed that captain Suryakumar Yadav was unhappy, telling the the umpires that Sanju was also frustrated, as Jansen kept getting in his way, preventing him from catching the ball.
Nevertheless, Indian team had the last laugh as Marco Jansen was dismissed in the same over by leg spinner Ravi Bishnoi, courtesy a fine catch by Hardik Pandya.
Captain Suryakumar Yadav praises Sanju Samson’s mindset and character
Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav appreciated the intent and mindset of Sanju Samson, while playing a match winning knock of 107 runs on 50 balls. He credited him as a team player and not a player who was chasing his hundred.
India won the first T20I against South Africa, by a margin of 61 runs in Durban on Friday. Sanju Samson stole the show with his batting. After the match, Suryakumar Yadav was asked about Sanju Samson, and he responded with a remarkable answer.
He said, “Sanju Samson was looking to hit boundaries even when he was batting in 90’s, thinking about the team first, it shows his character.”
The second T20I between India and South Africa is on November 10, Sunday in Gqeberha, Port Elizabeth.
