Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir has been under the radar, after India’s disappointing performance in a 3-0 whitewash against New Zealand at home. He may lose his position as Team India’s Test head coach if team performs poorly in Australia.
After losing the series to New Zealand, team India’s hopes of making it to the World Test Championship final rely on the results of the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. Rohit Sharma and co. needs at least 4 wins out of 5, to qualify for the finals without depending on any conditions.
According to the reports, the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI), captain Rohit Sharma, Gautam Gambhir, Ajit Agarkar along with Jay Shah & Roger Binny had a 6 Hours review meeting after India’s 0-3 loss vs New Zealand.
As per a report in Dainik Jagran, if the Indian team performs poorly in Australia, the BCCI might appoint a specialist like VVS Laxman as the Test coach, while Gautam Gambhir would continue his role as coach for ODIs and T20Is.
The beginning of what was expected to be a successful coaching career for Gautam Gambhir has not unfolded as he or the Indian team’s supporters had hoped.
Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 schedule
The most anticipated test series between India and Australia is set to start on November 22, with the first test being played in Perth. The Adelaide test, which begins on December 6, will be a day/night encounter, with pink ball being used. The third test will be played at the iconic stadium of Gabba, where India clinched the series, last time they visited Australia. The boxing-day test match is scheduled to be played in Melbourne from December 26 to December 30. The fifth and final test match would be played in Sydney, where the conditions favor the spinners.
