Australia and India are currently facing off against each other in the first of the five-match Test series in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25 in Perth. India’s stand-in captain, Jasprit Bumrah won the toss and elected to bat first. However, Team India were bowled out for 150 runs on the first day. The pitch had everything for the seamers and hence the Australian fast bowlers were on top of their game. Harshit Rana and Nitish Kumar Reddy got their Test debut today.
Rana was sensational when India came in to bowl and also picked up his first Test wicket in the form of Travis Head. It was a good length delivery from the round-the-wicket and was angled in. Head tried to stay on the leg side of the ball and defend on the back foot.
The ball pitched on the good length and nipped away to crash on to the off stump. Rana was absolutely elated after picking up his maiden wicket and it was the dangerous wicket of Head who had troubled India recently in the WTC 2023 Final and the ODI World Cup 2023 Final.

Indian bowlers led by Jasprit Bumrah put them back in the game
Meanwhile, India’s batting was lead by Rishabh Pant who scored 37 runs and Nitish Kumar Reddy, who scored 41 runs. KL Rahul chipped in with 26 runs. Indian bowlers came out firing lead by their captain, Bumrah, who dismissed Usman Khawaja, Nathan McSweeney, Steven Smith and Pat Cummins. At the end of Day 1, Australia have scored 67 runs for the loss of seven wickets. They still trail by 83 runs.
India have responded in their bold style and Bumrah has led the team well in the absence of the regular skipper, Rohit Sharma, who is set to feature from the next Test match in Adelaide. It all boils down to a riveting second day’s play in Perth. Indian bowlers will look to dismiss the last three wickets for as less as possible and get a substantial lead going into the second innings.
