"ICC Board has given PCB a day to mull over...." Vikrant Gupta provides a big update on the ICC Champions Trophy 2025

There has been strong discussions regarding the future and venue of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The tournament is scheduled to happen fully in Pakistan. However, the BCCI has not received permission from the Indian Government to send the cricket team to Pakistan for the tournament due to security reasons. Hence, they proposed a Hybrid model in which India’s matches will be played elsewhere. However, the PCB has strong objections to the Hybrid model and wants the full tournament to be held in the country.

There was a virtual ICC meeting on November 29 to break the deadlock between the two boards and decide the future of the event. However, the meeting had to be cut short as there was no solution from the meeting. Now, senior sports journalist Vikrant Gupta has taken to X to write,

“ICC Board has given PCB a day to mull over Hybrid Formula and in case they remain adamant (and worse case pullout or threaten CT boycott) the Champions Trophy will be held in a different country altogether. PCB are most likely to go ahead with Hybrid.”

India has not travelled to Pakistan since 2006 and has not even played any bilateral series since 2012/13. The stance of the Indian Government is clear: Till Pakistan stops funding cross-border terrorism, India won’t travel to Pakistan.

The International Cricket Council (ICCB) Board’s meeting on the Champions Trophy venue ended without a resolution after a brief 20-minute session.

Despite the urgency, the unresolved tension between India and Pakistan over the tournament’s hosting was palpable. The PCB remained firm, rejecting any hybrid hosting model, which has been a point of contention. It remains to be seen what finally happens in the situation given that both the boards are resolute in their decision.
