Indian captain Rohit Sharma has been struggling to put on a show with his bat, with his recent performances falling short of expectations. His lack of consistency in converting starts into big scores has raised concerns among fans and cricket analysts. A former South African player criticizes him for his fitness.

Rohit has showcased glimpses of his signature brilliance, his inability to convert starts into substantial scores has drawn attention. Hitman’s scores in the last 10 Test innings are 23, 8, 2, 52, 0, 8, 18, 11, 3, and 6. Given his pivotal role in India’s batting lineup and leadership, a return to form is crucial not only for boosting the team’s performance but also for setting an example as a leader.

Former South African cricketer Daryll Cullinan provides an opinion on Rohit Sharma in a recent interview. The lad criticized the Indian skipper for his fitness and form.

He stated,

“You look at Rohit, and you look at Virat [Kohli]. Look at their physical condition. Rohit’s overweight. He is not a long-term cricketer anymore. What I’m saying is that the hard grind of Test cricket—4-5 Test matches—Rohit’s not in good physical condition. Look at Virat and a lot of these other Indian players. I’ll say it again. Rohit’s best at home, but I just wonder if it’s not going to backfire on India because they went in with [pretty much] the same team in the 2nd Test.”

Cullinan added,

“I think Rohit is a flat-track bully. Let’s look at his record outside of India. Every time he’s been to South Africa, you clearly get the feeling that he doesn’t like the short ball. The fact that he’s now back in the middle order… he’s an opener. He must come and lead from the front, especially after that convincing victory under Bumrah’s leadership.”

Rohit Sharma will be looking to regain his form and deliver impactful innings to boost the team’s confidence and his own as they face crucial matches ahead against Australia. His bat would be crucial for India to clinch the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia for the third consecutive time.
