[Watch] English batting all-rounder Jacob Bethell picks up his maiden Test wicket against New Zealand

England cricketer Jacob Bethell, who made his Test cricket debut against New Zealand at Christchurch, took his maiden Test wicket in the third Test at Hamilton. The left-arm off spinner took the wicket of Kiwi all-rounder Daryll Mitchell courtesy to the catch of Matthew Potts at long-on, just near the boundary rope.

The English cricket team has taken a commanding 2-0 lead in the Test series against New Zealand, following impressive victories in the first two matches held at Christchurch and Wellington. In both games, England displayed dominant performances with both bat and ball, outclassing the home side. Their bowlers were instrumental in restricting New Zealand’s batting lineup, while their batsmen consistently delivered crucial runs to secure the wins.

Bethell was given his debut in this series as for his performances for England’s Under-19 team, especially in the 2022 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup, where he showcased his all-round abilities. The youngster is known for his aggressive batting style and effective spin bowling. He impressed everyone playing county cricket for Warwickshire, gaining a spot in the English lineup.

During the 2nd inning of New Zealand in the third Test match against England, the Kiwi batting order dominated the visitors by their stroke play. Due to this, the English youngster took the wicket of all-rounder Daryll Mitchell while he was trying to smash Bethell for a six. He finished the inning taking three wickets (Daryll Mitchell, Tim Southee, and Matt Henry) to his name, conceding 72 runs.

Jacob Bethell bowled a towards the leg stump, targetting the leg side of Kiwi cricketer Daryll Mitchell. The batter swung the ball for a six but lacked timing, which got carried staright into the hands of a long on-fielder near the boundary rope.

Apart from this, Jacob Bethell also took the wickets of Tim Southee (caught by Zak Crawley) and Matt Henry (bowled). To win the third Test match, the English cricket team requires a total of 640 runs from 2 days after finishing day 3 at 18/2, losing both openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett.
