Australian youngster Sam Konstas has been added to the Australian Test squad for the remaining two Test matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He is expected to replace Nathan McSweeney in the iconic Boxing Day Test in Melbourne against the Indian side.

Sam stated, “I was actually in the nets when I got the call from George Bailey, and he told me I was in the Test squad. I was so thrilled. I called my parents straight away, and they were very emotional. Mum was in tears; I was trying not to cry, and Dad was super proud. It’s been an amazing journey with all the ups and downs. I am very grateful for their sacrifices.”
The batter has played 11 first-class matches, scoring 718 runs at an average of 42.23. His achievements include two centuries and three half centuries, with a highest score of 152. In October 2024, he achieved his maiden first-class century, scoring an impressive 152 runs against South Australia. Remarkably, he became the youngest player since Ricky Ponting in 1993 to record twin centuries in a Sheffield Shield match.
Nathan McSweeney, who was given his Test debut in the first Test between India and Australia at Perth, has failed to impress the fans and experts. He managed to score a total of 72 runs, with 36 being his highest score. Sam Konstas is expected to make a larger impact with his performance for the Australian side.
