Former Indian batter Sunil Gavaskar gave a candid review of the underperforming Indian star Mohammed Siraj. The pacer has been struggling to make his mark in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Siraj has been delivering a series of disappointing performances in recent times for the Indian Jersey.
In the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, Mohammed Siraj has only taken 13 wickets, whereas Jasprit Bumrah leads the list with 25 wickets. Siraj has lacked his usual aggression with the new ball, placing additional pressure on Jasprit Bumrah to lead the attack and deliver breakthroughs.
Legendary batter Sunil Gavaskar is disappointed by the performance of the Indian seamer, criticizing the team management to drop him.
He stated, “I think Siraj, perhaps, needs a little bit of a break. In the sense, I am not saying a break, he needs to be told that he is left out of the team for non-performance. There has to be a situation where you can’t beat around the bush.”
Gavaskar added, “You need to be brutally upfront and say ‘look, your performance has not been up to scratch, and therefore you are being dropped.’ When you start talking about ‘rest,’ players get wrong ideas. They feel they don’t need to up their game. But I think Siraj needs to be told ‘Look, you are not bowling as well as we expected you to on pitches that have been helpful’. That is something that needs to be told.”
Sunil Gavaskar suggests the changes in the Indian bowling attack
Legendary Indian batter Sunil Gavaskar suggests the Indian team management apply two changes in the upcoming Test match at Sydney. He believes that the current bowling lineup is unable to support Jasprit Bumrah, causing double pressure on his shoulders.
He stated, “If you want to make two changes, Prasidh Krishna and Harshit Rana to support Jasprit Bumrah. By all means, do that.”
The former Indian cricketer wants Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep to make way for Prasidh Krishna and Harshit Rana to ease the pressure on Bumrah. Sunil believes these two bowlers have the potential to provide better support to Bumrah, ensuring a more balanced and effective bowling attack for the team.
