The India Cricket Team and England Cricket Team are going to play a T20I series, starting from January 22. This series comprises of 5 T20I matches going to be played in Eden Gardens (Kolkata), MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chennai), SCA Stadium (Rajkot), MCA Stadium (Pune), and Wankhede Stadium (Mumbai).

India’s lineup is built on depth and adaptability, with consistent performers like Suryakumar Yadav anchoring the middle order and Hardik Pandya offering explosive finishing capabilities. Emerging talents such as Tilak Varma and Abhishek Sharma provide stability and flair at the top, ensuring a strong foundation. On the other hand, England’s batting thrives on fearless aggression. Led by Jos Buttler, they boast power hitters like Harry Brook and Liam Livingstone, who excel in counterattacking and clearing the boundaries. With both teams showcasing a mix of class and firepower, their batting promises to deliver high-scoring, thrilling contests throughout the series.

Here are the three player battles to watch out for in the India vs England first T20I:

1: Jos Buttler vs Axar Patel

England skipper Jos Buttler is known for his explosive batting at the top of the order. He is a destructive batter with the ability to accelerate the scoring rate with ease. Axar Patel, with his accuracy and clever use of angles, has been a consistent performer for India in white-ball cricket. This matchup will test Buttler’s aggression against Axar’s discipline and ability to extract help from the surface.

If Axar bowls in the powerplay, Buttler’s approach to counter his left-arm spin will be a key moment in the match. Buttler’s sweep shots and improvisation might disrupt Axar’s rhythm, but his knack for striking early in the powerplay could test Buttler’s patience.

2: Suryakumar Yadav vs Jofra Archer

Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav is known for his innovative and aggressive strokeplay in the middle overs. He is an explosive batter who holds the ability to dominate bowlers in the middle overs. English fast bowler Jofra Archer is known for his express pace and accuracy. His ability to bowl can pose a significant threat to any batter in the Indian lineup. Surya’s aggressive batting against Archer’s fiery pace will be a highlight, especially during the crucial middle overs.

Jofra Archer will likely target Suryakumar Yadav with pace and short balls, testing his reflexes and adaptability. His raw speed and sharp bouncers could tilt the momentum for the visitors.

3: Sanju Samson vs Adil Rashid

Indian opener Sanju Samson has been in a stellar form since the last year and has solidified his position as an opener in the T20I format. He has emerged as a reliable T20I batter for India, known for his aggressive gameplay against spinners. Adil Rashid, England’s trusted legspinner, is renowned for his variations and control in the middle overs, often derailing opposition momentum.

Samson’s flair for playing spin, particularly with sweeps and lofted shots, will be up against Rashid’s googlies and quick sliders. If Rashid can outfox Samson early with flight and variations, it could break India’s rhythm.
