PCB have appointed Muhammad Rizwan as the captain of the white ball team of Pakistan and Salman Ali Agha as the vice-captain of the side ahead of the white ball tour of Australia. On October 2, 2024, Babar Azam announced his decision to step down as the captain of the Pakistan white ball team through a post on X. During a press conference on Sunday, PCB Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi announced the decision to appoint them as the leaders.

PCB have brought in a new selection committee led by Aaqib Javed after their loss in the first Test against England in Multan. They have also given the full power to the selection committee to take decisions on selections and have taken the power away from the hands of the head coaches. After this, Gary Kirsten, announced his resignation from the post of the Head Coach of Pakistan’s white ball team.

Meanwhile, Javed focussed on making spin friendly pitches in the final two Tests against England and also brought in Sajid Khan and Noman Ali, who turned the series around for Pakistan as they went on to win the series 2-1.

During the press conference, Mohsin Naqvi said that they got six months late to bring in Aaqib Javed and if they would have brought him, then the result of the past six months would have been different. It was possibly a dig at Gary Kirsten and Babar Azam, whose ideas clashed with those of the PCB. Rizwan and Salman could not control their smile when Naqvi said this.

Aqib Javed made some big decisions in the middle of the Test series by dropping Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah for the final two matches against England. This attracted severe reactions as Pakistan’s premier batter was dropped owing to poor form.
