Former Indian player and cricket analyst Akash Chopra has shed light on the fact that India could have provided KL Rahul with a chance to bat further as he looked in good touch in his short inning in the third innings of the match.
India was stunning in their second innings, as they took a long lead with Shubman Gill’s and Rishabh Pant’s respective comeback hundreds. However, KL Rahul, who was also making his comeback to the red-ball format, looked to have a promising start in his short 22-run innings.
Chopra felt that India could have provided Rahul much of a chance in the innings so that he could have played deep into the innings and made an impact as much as that of the returning Pant. However, India decided to call off their innings when India posed a target of 515 and Rahul was on a 19-ball 22.
He also exclaimed that India’s growing pace bowling deck could have been utilized more with Akashdeep handing the ball more often than he was in either of the two innings.
“The second thing they would think about is that one-and-a-half days were left, you have won by 280 runs, you didn’t give the follow-on as well, you were not falling short of time, there was no rain coming, so could we have allowed KL Rahul to score 60-70 runs?” the former India opener added.

Action will shift to Kanpur as India will be in the quest for sealing the series, as they have also announced their squad for the 2nd Test, recently, which is unchanged from Chennai.
