Pakistan Cricket Board have appointed the former umpire and first class player, Aleem Dar, as a member of their selection committee.
He has already retired from ICC’s elite panel of umpires in 2023. His last match was between Bangladesh and Ireland in 2023. However, he can still stand in ODIs and T20Is.
Dar was an umpire in a T20I match between Pakistan and New Zealand earlier this year. However, he has clearly stated that he will call it quits from domestic umpiring after the end of the current domestic season of Pakistan cricket.
PCB has announced that Aleem Dar will be part of the selection committee
Dar has been an umpire in 145 Tests and 222 ODIs. It is still not clear whether he will formally or officially join the selection committee at the end of the current domestic season in Pakistan cricket. The statement from PCB stated: “The Pakistan Cricket Board has confirmed that the following members have been added to the men’s national selection committee as voting members: Aleem Dar, Aqib Javed, Azhar Ali and Hasan Cheema.”
Pakistan cricket is at its absolute lowest currently. There are turmoils and no unity in between the players inside the dressing rooms. There are always reports of feuds and political interference in cricket. It has been reflected on their performances as they are struggling in all formats of the game.
They were knocked out of the group stages of both the ODI World Cup 2023 and the T20 World Cup 2023. They have lost matches to Afghanistan, USA and Zimbabwe.
They lost the Test series at home 2-0 against Bangladesh at home and now they suffered a crushing defeat at home in the first Test match against England in Multan. The future seems very bleak for Pakistan cricket currently, with chaos within the setup.
