Azam has been in the headlines for the all the wrong reasons, lately. He has not scored a century since the Asia Cup 2023 opener against Nepal. He did not have a good tournament in Asia Cup after that and Pakistan team suffered badly.

In the ODI World Cup 2023, Azam did not live up to the standards that he had set for himself. He scored 320 runs in 9 games, which dissapointed the fans. Pakistan got knocked out of the group stage and Babar came under pressure for not bringing success despite captaining in multiple tournaments.

He was sacked from the captaincy and Shaheen Shah Afridi was appointed as the T20I captain and Shan Masood as the Test captain. However, ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024, he was reappointed as Pakistan’s limited-overs captain.

The Men In Green were knocked out of the group stage and Azam’s captaincy and batting strike-rate came into question. Moreover, reports of rift between him and Shaheen are also making rounds.
