There is going to be a mega auction soon ahead of the next season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025). Just a few days ago, the IPL governing council and the ten franchises had a meeting to discuss about the rules and regulations of the upcoming mega auction.
It was revealed that the BCCI will officially announce the rules by the end of August or the start of September. However, the announcement has still not been made.
Now, reports say that there will be delay in announcing the rules and regulations of the upcoming mega auction. The BCCI might take it to the end of September to announce the rules and regulations. BCCI’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) which is in Bengaluru on September 29, might be the time when the BCCI makes the rules official.
The report also says that the BCCI might also announce them before September 19. The franchises have already approached BCCI to know about the retention policies. However, the BCCI has revealed that they will take 10-14 days more for the official announcement to be made.

The franchises, however, will have time till November 15 to decide the players whom they will retain. The mega auction is expected to be held in December and there are strong possibilities that Right-To-Match (RTM) card will also be available during the auction.
The BCCI might also bring back a rule that was prevalent between 2008 and 2021. The rule stated that franchises can retain those players as ‘uncapped’ players who have retired from international cricket for more than five years.
CSK basically suggested the BCCI to bring it back in order to retain MS Dhoni as the ‘uncapped’ player next season if he decides to play. This will help them retain their core group of international players.
