Mohammed Shami, who has been a crucial player for the Indian side, has consistently delivered impactful performances with the ball. His ability to swing the ball at high speeds and execute pinpoint yorkers makes him a pivotal player in India’s success across formats. As per the reports, he has been ruled out of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as confirmed by the BCCI.
The veteran fast bowler last played an international match for India against the Australian side at the 2023 ODI World Cup and has been on the road to recovery since then. He made an inspiring comeback to the domestic circuit, showcasing his skill and ability after the injury.
As per reports, the BCCI Medical Team at the Centre of Excellence has been actively assisting Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami in his recovery and rehabilitation following surgery on his right heel. Shami has now fully recovered from the injury. However, his left knee has exhibited minor swelling due to increased joint loading from his bowling workload. The swelling is on the expected lines, owing to the increased bowling after a prolonged period.
Shami bowled 43 overs for Bengal in a Ranji Trophy match against Madhya Pradesh in November. He then featured in all nine games of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT), supplementing his workload with extra bowling sessions to prepare for upcoming Test matches.
The BCCI Medical Team has assessed that Shami’s knee needs more time to handle bowling workloads, ruling him out of the remaining two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He will focus on strength and conditioning at the BCCI Centre of Excellence to prepare for the demands of Test cricket. His participation in the Vijay Hazare Trophy will depend on his recovery progress.
Fans and experts were eagerly anticipating a strong comeback from the bowler in the red-ball format for India. However, this unfortunate setback means they will have to wait a little longer to see him back in action.
