Prithvi Shaw has been in the news recently for all sorts of wrong reasons. He burst into the Indian cricketing scene as a young batter who was going to be the next big thing in Indian cricket. Shaw also started off his international career in style by becoming the youngest batter to score a Test century on his debut game.
However, since then the Mumbai batter has vanished from the national team and his career has also been on the downhill due to his lack of discipline and his wayward life style.
Shaw has also suffered in domestic cricket this season. He has scored 59 runs in four matches in Ranji Trophy after which he was dropped due to fitness issues and disciplinary actions. However, he did make a comeback in the Mumbai Team for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. However, he was the worst-performing batter for his side, having scored 197 runs at an average of 21.88 in the tournament.
What did Shreyas Iyer say about Prithvi Shaw?
Mumbai and Indian senior batter, Shreyas Iyer expressed that he believes Prithvi Shaw is a naturally gifted player, acknowledging that the level of talent Shaw possesses is exceptional. He noted, however, that Shaw’s work ethic needs improvement, a point he had mentioned in previous interviews. Iyer conveyed that if Shaw could enhance his work ethic, his potential would be boundless. He also remarked that while many have advised Shaw, ultimately, it is up to Shaw himself to take responsibility for his own development and improvement.
Iyer said: “I think, personally, he is a God-gifted player. The amount of talent he possesses as an individual, no one has it. That’s true. It’s just that he needs to improve his work ethic. And I have said it before as well in many of the interviews. He needs to get his work ethic right. And if he does that, you know, the sky is the limit for him. Can you force him to? I can’t force him. He has played so much cricket. And everyone has given him inputs. At the end of the day, it’s his job to go out there and figure out things for himself.”
