Chennai Super Kings are set to retain their former captain, MS Dhoni ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. He is going to be one among the five players who will be retained by the franchise. The former Indian captain is the joint most successful captain in the league’s history along with Rohit Sharma of Mumbai Indians, having won the IPL five times.
Franchises can retain upto six players but CSK are going to retain only five. They will use one Right-To-Match card (RTM) during the auction which will likely happen in a month from now. CSK are set to retain their captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, the all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Shivam Dube. They will also retain the Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana.
The amount that CSK is paying each of the retained players are unknown but the report states that the franchise will use up INR 65 crore from the allotted 120 crores INR for the retentions. There might be an official declaration on October 31. As per sources, it is the day for the announcement of the official retention list of each franchise.

Dhoni relinquished his duties as the captain of the franchise ahead of the last season and handed it over to Gaikwad. He, however, played through his knee injury but managed to play some destructive cameos at the back end of the innings.
The big sixes and the fours thrilled the fans in the stadium who came in large numbers in all parts of India to witness the former World Cup winning captain in action. The fans will be happy that the legend is going to play yet another season in the IPL and they can see him in action for one more time.
