"What is the hurry boss?", Dinesh Karthik defends Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma amid pressure of Test retirement

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, the two batting stalwarts for India, have been facing constant criticism from the fans for their under-performance during the recent home Test series against New Zealand. India were whitewashed 3-0 in the home Test series and this was their first Test series defeat at home since 2012. This was also the first time that India were whitewashed at home in Test series since the time the team started playing Test cricket.

Kohli and Rohit failed to be among the runs which was one of the big reasons why India failed in the series. Fans have been calling for the retirement of the two legends from red ball cricket ahead of the start of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25 in Australia.

What did Dinesh Karthik say about Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma?

Former Indian wicketkeeper-batter, Dinesh Karthik has backed the two players in this lean phase and asked the fans to not go after them after just one series. He feels that if the two batters don’t go on to perform in the next 10 matches then the questions about their spot in the Test team could be valid.

“What is the hurry boss? One bad series and already calling for the heads. I don’t think so. I think, if they don’t do well in the next 10 Test matches, then we will come back to this question and then it becomes a fair question, considering it’s going to be another domestic season. For the moment, I don’t think we need to group anyone anywhere,” Dinesh Karthik said.

Rohit Sharma scored 91 runs in three Tests at an average of 15.16 in the Test series against New Zealand. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli scored 93 runs at an average of 15.50. Both of them managed to score just one half-century through the course of these three matches.
