Harry Brook and Joe Root helped England post a huge partnership of 454 runs for the fourth wicket against Pakistan at Multan. This remarkable record has set a new benchmark for excellence.

England’s batting innings were nothing short of extraordinary, as they all amassed an astonishing 823 runs for the loss of seven wickets before they declared their innings. This resulted in the fourth-highest-ever team total produced since the previous three huge totals posted in test cricket.

Posting a total of 823, they broke the record of the Indian side to have had the record highest test total against Pakistan in Pakistan, as they were 675/5 declared on this same iconic Multan stadium in 2004.

Sri Lanka, who posted a world record total of 952/6 against India trailing back to 1997, have the next two biggest test scores from England against Australia in 1938 (903/7) and lastly against the West Indies in 1930 (849).

While posting this huge total, they surpassed not only the likes of Indian veterans Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid, who previously held the record for the third-highest partnership stand of 410 runs. They also went past the Windies duo’s 446-run and 437-run partnership with the legendary Lankan duo, the three highest-run partnerships against Pakistan.

The first record broken was from the end of Joe Root, who scored a career-best 262 runs, as he moved to a historic 5th place in the highest test-runs tally, only behind legendary Rahul Dravid, Jacques Kallis, Ricky Ponting, and Sachin Tendulkar.

While Harry Brook’s marvellous 300-run knock set a new benchmark as he, with his stunning 317-run knock, posted not only his but also one of England’s highest test scores and broke a 34-year jinx to emerge as a triple century getter.

Brook set another record in the making, as he is now the second-fastest scorer of a test triple century, only behind Virender Sehwag, who scored the fastest 300 from just 278 balls back in 2008.

For the second time in the history of cricket, six of the bowlers from the Pakistan team have conceded more than 100 runs, for the second time since Zimbabwe had a similar condition back in 2004.

England also set a record with their baseball form of play, as they posted a huge 700+ run total at a run rate nearing 5.50, which is the highest by any team as a test total.

Harry Brook has also listed his name among greats like Gary Sobers (365*), David Warner (335*), Mark Taylor (334), and Virender Sehwag (309) as players to have scored test triple hundreds against Pakistan.
