Indian pacer RP Singh revealed how players often indulge in activities that help them keep their bodies fit during the rain-interrupted sessions of a match.
All of this conversation was initiated due to the interruption of the match by continuous rains during the India vs. Bangladesh second Test, which is now being held at Kanpur Green Park Stadium.
Rain has been a major fiasco to deal with for a major outdoor game like cricket, as even the matches of Sri Lanka and New Zealand have been rain-affected. Due to rain, many teams have seen their WTC points being hampered, and if India’s second Test is washed out, they would feel the pressure ahead of the BGT.
No improvement from the continuous heavy rains to drizzle at Kanpur ruled out any possibility for play, as the players returned to the team hotel, as per reports from Revsports.
On this occasion, RP Singh revealed what usual activities cricketers indulge in when they are left stranded in the hotel or are confined to the dressing rooms. He said many players are often found indulging in fun activities and also training sessions as well as the gym.
“Players usually try to achieve their gym targets during this free time. Some do cardio, others focus on weights—basically, they try to utilize this period to complete any pending tasks,” said RP on how players always have a professional approach.
Rain washed off play on the second day of India vs Bangladesh
India began their second Test with skipper Rohit Sharma winning the toss and opting to bowl against the visitors. The Indian bowlers, who came from a steady and rather dominating win of 280 runs from the MA Chidambaram Stadium, gave them a decent start at Kanpur.
After the early morning drizzle on Day 1 as well, Indian ace pacers Bumrah and Siraj restricted them from scoring many runs, as Akash Deep, the new third pacer for India, got the first breakthrough in the form of opener Zakir Hasan, who got him for a 24-ball duck.
Next was the fellow opener, Shadman Islam, who fell to Akash Deep as the new man struck twice, with Bangladesh trembling at a minor 33/2. However, Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mominul Haque added some momentum to their innings, as they were 78/2 at Lunch.
In the very few overs bowled post Lunch, Ravi Ashwin rewrote record books as he took the wicket of Bangladesh skipper to surpass the great Anil Kumble as India’s highest wicket-taker on Asian soil. Bangladesh ended Day 1 with 107/3, while the stumps were called early due to bad light, and now the entire second day of play has been washed off due to rain.
