The biggest concern in Indian cricket for the last few days has been KL Rahul and his spot in the Indian Cricket Team. The Karnataka batter has had a lot of flair but has never been able to cement his spot in the team with consistent performances and delivering under pressure. Rahul has had some poor and inconsistent form in the longest format of the game.
With Sarfaraz Khan smashing his maiden hundred in the first Test match of the series against New Zealand and with the return of Shubman Gill at number three, it is being contemplated that Rahul is dropped from the team for the second Test match in Pune.
What did Ryan Ten Doeschate say about KL Rahul?
However, India’s assistant coach, Ryan Ten Doeschate, cleared the air regarding the uncertainity surrounding the future of KL Rahul in the side. He said that the Head Coach Gautam Gambhir wants to give Rahul an extended run of games just like Sanju Samson. He feels that there is no concern about the form of KL Rahul and the Karnataka batter is batting freely in the nets in good mental space.
“Gauti [Gautam Gambhir] is keen to give him a long rope like Sanju [Sanju Samson],” ten Doeschate said during the pre-match press conference on Tuesday.
“There’s certainly no concerns about KL, he’s batting nicely, he’s in a good mental space. But we are certainly going to have to fit seven pieces into six spots for this Test and look at the pitch now and decide what’s going to be best for the team,” he said.
India are on the back foot after losing the first Test match against New Zealand in Bengaluru. They have to win the next Test in Pune to make a comeback in the series. It is being reported that the wicket in Pune will be a slow turner. It remains to be seen now, if KL Rahul does find his place in the side for the next Test match.
