Ahead of the start of IPL 2025, Delhi Capitals announced that their head coach, Ricky Ponting will be stepping aside from his duties and hence they had to find a replacement for him.
Now, DC have announced that former Indian cricketer Hemang Badani will be the new Head Coach of the team. Meanwhile, Ponting has become the new Head Coach of Punjab Kings.
Badani’s former Indian teammate and close coaching associate Venugopal Rao will serve in the role of the Director of Cricket of the team.
Cricbuzz reports that the management of the franchise has given the complete freedom to both of them to select and appoint the rest of the members of the coaching staff of the team.
Delhi Capitals have two new man in charge
The two of them have already served for the franchise in the ILT20 as well as in the USA’s MLC competition. Reports also say that Capitals will retain Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav before the IPL 2025 mega auction.
Delhi Capitals, formerly known as Delhi Daredevils, have been a perennial contender in the Indian Premier League (IPL) since its inception in 2008, yet the trophy has always eluded them.
Over the years, the franchise has seen a rollercoaster of performances, with moments of brilliance interspersed with periods of underwhelming results.
Despite boasting of players like Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, and more recently, Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant, the Capitals have struggled to clinch the ultimate prize.
Their strategy has often been critiqued for lacking that final touch in team composition or strategy. This might explain why they’ve been so close yet so far from lifting the IPL trophy. The fanbase remains hopeful, though, as each season brings new talent and renewed optimism for breaking the jinx. It remains to be seen what happens finally in the upcoming IPL 2025 season with new coaching staffs.
