"I see a genuine dearth of talent in the country," Sourav Ganguly talks about the underperformance of Pakistan Cricket

Former India captain and BCCI President, Sourav Ganguly, recently, talked about the downfall of Pakistan cricket. He brought light on the scarcity of genuine talents in the country who can feature for the national team. He also stated that he remembers the former Pakistan players as genuine match winners and not the current lot.

The current players don’t have the ability to win matches for the country. He feels that in every generation a team or a country needs world class talents who can win matches for the side. Ganguly also went on to talk about the underperformance of the Men In Green in the Asia Cup 2023, ODI World Cup 2023, T20 World Cup 2024 and the recent Test series against Bangladesh.

“I see a genuine dearth of talent in the country. Every time we think of Pakistan, we remember Miandad, Wasim, Waqar, Saeed Anwar, Mohammad Yousuf, and Younis Khan. That’s the memory of Pakistan for us, but that doesnโ€™t win matches in the modern generation of cricket.” Ganguly told PTI.

Every generation has to produce outstanding players to win, and when I look at Pakistan in world cricket — I saw them in the West Indies World Cup, in India during the World Cup, and now after the Bangladesh series loss — there is a dearth of talent in that country,” he added.

Pakistan Cricket has been under tremendous pressure and are facing criticism from all corners of the cricketing world. Additionally, there have been reports of feuds in the team. They got whitewashed 2-0 on home soil in the Test series against Bangladesh.

They got knocked out the ODI World Cup 2023 and the T20 World Cup 2024 from the group stage. They are not finding genuine match winners who can step up and win matches consistently for the side on their own. The future looks to be very bleak until and unless their cricket witnesses a massive transformation.
