Shubman Gill talks about the changes that he has made in his technique

Shubman Gill, the young Indian batter, has had some lacklustre performances in Test cricket and has not yet settled his position in this format just like ODI cricket. However, recently he has stated that he has worked a lot of his defensive capabilities against the spinners. He feels that his defence should be perfect when he is facing the spinners on turning tracks.

“I worked on my defence a little bit more against spinners. You should be able to defend a lot more when you are playing on a turning track against spinners, then you can play the scoring shots,” Gill, who will lead Team A in the Duleep Trophy told PTI.

Gill has faced a lot of issues against spinners at the start of his career. His place in the Test team has been called into doubt. However, after the ICC World Test Championship final in 2023, captain Rohit Sharma and the team management trusted on Gill and positioned him in the number 3 spot in the Test lineup. He performed really well in the home series against England by scoring close to 500 runs in the Test series.

Shubman Gill striving hard to cement his place in Tests

Gill wants to perform well in the upcoming two match Test series against Bangladesh, starting from September 19. He will have to face the challenges of world-class spinners bowling on turning tracks in India. So, he definitely needs to bring out his A game which will be based on his defensive skills.

Bangladesh have just defeated Pakistan by a margin by 2-0 in Pakistan. So, they will be coming with confidence and challenging India. It remains to be seen if Gill can negate the spinners on those pitches and bring out his best performances. His spot in the Test team is definitely up in the air.

The Two-match Test series between Bangladesh and India starts from 19th September 2024. The first Test will be played in Chennai before the action shifts to Kanpur.
